This chuhin-sized Colorado Blue Spruce (Picea pungens) is a remarkable bonsai specimen that exemplifies the beauty and character of its species. Collected by Adam Johnson from the rugged Rocky Mountains of Colorado, this tree is approximately 65 years old and has been in training for three years. Originally designed by Ryan Neil, it is housed in a prestigious Horst Heinzlreiter container that perfectly complements its natural elegance.

This spruce features an incredible base with wonderfully sinuous movement and a distinctive deadwood spire, showcasing the rugged resilience typical of the species. Its branching structure is compact yet intricate, adding to the tree’s overall appeal. The combination of this exquisite tree and its container is unmatched in scale and size for a native collected Spruce, making it a truly rare and valuable specimen.

As this tree continues to adapt to containerized culture, it is expected to undergo profuse back-budding and rapid expansion of ramification. Over the next two to three years, you’ll witness its maturation and increasing value, making it a compelling investment for any bonsai enthusiast.
